Foundation Grant Provides Arts Education to Local High School Students: Greenways Arts Alliance
May 8, 2016
Thanks to the support of the Hollywood Chamber of Community Community Foundation; 300 Fairfax High School students are currently participating in the Greenways Arts Alliance project: Greenway Reads, where students, teachers and staff will be reading and participating in activities around the themes of George Orwell's novel 1984 through in-school Arts Integration Residencies.
A kick-off event was held in the Fairfax High School Auditorium, featuring activities and guest speakers, highlighting themes from 1984. All participating students, classroom teachers, and on-campus support staff received complimentary copies of the novel for use throughout the program. In conjunction, as part of its Main Stage season, Greenway is producing the professional stage adaptation of 1984, for a six-week run at the Greenway Court Theatre opening October 21, 2016
In addition to the public performances and teaching artists working in classrooms, participating classroom teachers will bring their students to a matinee performance of this production, paired with a post-show discussion featuring cast and production members.
